Fung Kai Man

Trumpet

  Fung Kai Man joined the Hong Kong Youth Orchestra at the age of 14 and performed in its concert tour of France and England. He studied with Mr. Henry Nowak at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts and was among its very first graduates in 1987. Since then he has performed with various orchestras in Hong Kong and Macau including the City Symphony Orchestra, the Lim Kek Han Concert Orchestra and the Macau Chamber Orchestra.

  Fung is a founding member of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and has been its principal trumpet since 1990. He has also been engaged as solo trumpet in performmances of the concerti of Haydn and Hummel, the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, Copland's Quiet City, Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 1 and various other pieces from the Baroque repertoire.

  Fung is also active in teaching and conducting. He has been conducting the school orchestra and band of the CCC Kei Wan Primary School for 17 years. His students and groups have been frequent prize winners in the H.K. Schools Music Festivals and the H.K. Band Festivals. He has also taught at the Music Office and the Academy for the Performing Arts and has been invited by the Instituto Cultural de Macau to host workshops on brass instruments in Macau.

  In 2001, Fung has given a recital of 19th Century cornet virtuoso pieces in the Macau Band Fair on authentic instruments.
