Leong Ngok Meng

Leong was born in Macau and graduated from Pui Ching Middle School.

Leong started to learn the piano at six in the Academia de Música S. Pio X with Ms Tam Man Man. He obtained his ABRSM Grade 8 certificates in piano and theory with distinction. At the age of 8, Leong received his Dip ABRSM diploma in piano performance. In the same year, he joined the school orchestra and met his first trumpet teacher Mr Li Zhuokun. He started his training with Mr Fung Kai Man in 1997 and has ever served as the trumpet principal of the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Macau Youth Symphony Band. He has been to perform with Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra in Sidney, Tasmania, Queensland and Bangkok. In  2008, he participated in The 8th World Choral Festival in Vienna and Salzburg.

In 1994, Leong earned his first prize in the Macao Young Musicians Competition in the junior trumpet category. Since then he has received various awards in the brass band and piano categories. Leong visited Singapore with the Symphonic Band of Hong Kong Academy for Performing Art in 1996. In the year after, Leong visited Taiwan for the International Band Festival. Leong participated in the brass ensemble activity held in Hong Kong; at this moment his brass quintet was on stage with Mr Yeh Shu Han. Leong has been invited to play in the Cultural Bureau of the Arts-lei Chuzhan concerts with the former Macao Chamber Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, performed Haydn and Hummel trumpet concertos. Leong played the role as a piano soloist at the Concert of New Generation of Macao Musicians in 2002 and 2005, as well as a trumpet soloist respectively

In 2006, received the scholarship of San Francisco Conservatory of Music of United States, and sponsored by the Macao Foundation, the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau and the Cultural Bureau funding, he is a current student of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He studies trumpet under Professor David Burkhart, and conducting with Ms Sonja Neblett.

He led the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra and a number of soloists in the Concert of New Generation of Macao Musicians in 2007 and 2008.
