Since its foundation, the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) aims to provide orchestral trainings and performance opportunities for local young people. As such, these youngsters can share their experiences, cultivate and promote their interests, as well as their standard in music appreciation will be lifted.
The MYSO visited Vienna and Salzburg in 22 - 23 May this year. Among the youth orchestras in China, it is the foremost to be invited to perform in The 8th World Choral Festival; it is also the first to be in concert with the Vienna Boys Choir staging in Musikvereien and Mozarteum.
From the year 1997, the MYSO has accomplished to almost hundred performances. The orchestra is composed of young players from universities/colleges, high schools, primary schools and those at work. Our members spend their leisure time to attend weekly trainings. Overseas consultants and well-known musicians are invited to give master classes to young players. Some of our teachers are from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta. Under the guidance from various teachers, our members are being nurtured and their knowledge is broadened. Furthermore, they have developed good temperament, personality and cooperative spirit in music training. Through exchanges of experiences, friendships are developed as well. The MYSO organizes concerts annually such as the MYSO Anniversary Concert and the Macao New Generation. From Schubert¡¦s Unfinished Symphony in its premiere (1997) to Beethoven¡¦s Fifth Symphony (2007), our members have learned valuable lessons. A number of our members have proceeded to study music as their profession.
Besides the honorary Music Director Maestro Veiga Jardim and local instructors, the orchestra has performed along with overseas renowned musicians such as Yu Feng, Leung Kin-Fung, Ye Suh-Han, Fung Kai-Man, Homer Lee, Yiu Song-Lam, Li Chuan-Yun, Jackson Leung, The Lee Trio, Professor Yves and his son Raphael Yves, Martin Schebesta and many more; with local musicians, Lio Kuok-Man and Lio Kuok-Wai, Wong Ka, Ma Pou-Mang, Hong Si-Man, etc. Music groups include Coro Perosi, the Australia SBS Youth Orchestra, the Queensland Youth Orchestra, the HK APA Chamber Orchestra, The Wright State University Chamber Orchestra of United State, the EOS Symphony Orchestra from the China Central Music Conservatory, The Vienna Boys Choir, and so forth.
