Yuanyuan Liao

Flute

  Born into a family of music, Yuanyuan started to play piano at the age of four and at the age of six she was already the third prize winner of a provincial children’s piano competition. In 1994, Yuanyuan won the first prize in Hong Kong Piano Competition and the first prize of the advanced category in the First Yamaha Piano Competition for Young Children. Yuanyuan had her father as her first flute instructor when she was 12. She had lived up to the expectation of her father when she was admitted with the highest score by the Middle School affiliated with Xinghai Conservatory of Music in 1996 and majored in flute. While studying at school she was tutored by Huang Yong and Yan Qi. During her school time she was very lucky to be instructed by Shigenori Kudo, a jury member of international competition, Mr. Alexandra Magnin, a flute professor of Zurich Conservatory of Music, and various professors at China Central Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Conservatory of Music. In 2001, she gave her first solo concert at the Music Hall of Xinghai Conservatory of Music which was a great success. In 2002, she was admitted with high marks by Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris, Conservatory of Music of Canberra and Xinghai Conservatory of Music.

  In 2002, Yuanyuan went to Paris to pursue her music study at Ecole Normale Super Paris with full scholarship. There she was tutored by Claudine·Desjardins-Clautour, a professor of flute, and Pierre·Yves-Artaud, a tenured professor at Concervatoire National Superieur Musique de Paris who is a leading master in modern flute playing as well as an excellent educator. Yuanyuan has since won a series of honors, including the first prize of Flute at the Tenth European Musical Contest, first prize of the Advanced Category at Lutece Flute Competition, second prize of the Advanced Category at UFUM International Flute Competition, second prize of the Honorary Category at UFUM International Chamber Music Contest and first prize of the Advanced Category at Concours “Les Cles d’Or”, the third prize of the Youth Category at the National Flute Contest for Music Students held by the Educational Department of China Ministry of Culture, the third prize at the Second International Competition of Young Musicians in Belgrade. In 2005, YUANYUAN was granted the Higher Education Diploma of Chamber Music and the Higher Education Diploma of Flute.

  While in Paris, she often attended master classes and appeared in various performances. She had performed often with Alternance Ensemble, a French modern chamber music ensemble, as the first flute and with O.F.F, a French modern flute orchestra. She was invited by the Mayor of Bad Goisern, Austria to give solo concerts in Austria. She performed on stage with Peter Brugger, the well known Austrian pianist. Her solo concerts were well received and highly appraised by the music circle and media in Austria. Mr. Messin. Irmgard, a flute professor at Mozart Conservatory of Music in Salzburg spoke highly of her master of flute art when she took his master classes.

  Yuanyuan is currently an instructor of flute in the String and Pipe Department of Xinghai Conservatory of Music. She also serves as the first flute in the Orchestra of Xinghai Conservatory of Music.
