The Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra The Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra today should not be regarded as an orchestra only. To some extent, it witnesses the development of music education and culture in Macau. —People’s Daily 

Found in 1997, the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra has been a flagship orchestra in Macau, striving to provide musical training and performing opportunities for the local youth as well as to provide a forum for people to develop friendships and promote Macau through music. The year of 2020 celebrates the 23rd anniversary of the Macao Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO). 

Since its inception, MYSO has given more than 800 performances with a series of major annual events including the Anniversary Concert, the New Generation Musicians’ Concert, International Concert Tour, the Macau New Year’s Concert, MYSO Music Festival, Young Musicians’ Concert, series of Great Masters, of Seedling, of Family Concert, of Exchange Concert. MYSO currently consists of symphony orchestra, junior symphony orchestra, and wind ensemble. The players come from local universities, secondary and primary schools. Over 70 players have decided to pursue their career in music and have grown into the first generation local musicians. 

Local conductors Oswaldo Veiga Jardim and Lio Kuok Man, as well as Leung Kin Fung, Stanley Dodds, Martyn Brabbins, Mario Venzago, Enrique Batiz, Patrick Lange, Xavier Delette, Yu Feng, Lin Daye, Xia Xiaotang, Huang Yi and Chen Tscheng-Hsiung has been conducted the orchestra. In the last 23 years, the orchestra also collaborates regularly with numerous internationally renowned musicians and ensembles including Michael Ma, Ray Wang, Yiu Song Lam, Ho Wing, Xie Nan, Fan Lei, Lio Kuok-wai, Li Chuanyun, Mengla Huang, Wei Lu, Liang Wang, Yao Zhao, Bin Huang, Raphael Severe, Sergei Dogadin, Jean-Philippe Collard, American String Quartet, Great Wall String Quartet, Cheang Chan Pong, Zhu Xiongzhen, Cheang Wai Ling, Wang Yi and Alan Cumberland. In 2016, MYSO had a unique music learning experience with Boris Kuschnir, a world-renowned violinist and professor at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. His reputation as a teacher won international recognition and MYSO was honored to present a special concert together with him. 

Since 2007, MYSO has actively participated in music exchange tours for 11 consecutive years, tour in more than 30 cities in mainland China, Australia, Singapore, Austria, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Japan, Thailand, the United States and France. In 2017, MYSO was invited to participate in the Festival Young Concerts in Neubrandenburg, Germany and held concerts in Berlin, Dresden and Eisenach. The Germany tour was honored to be included in the German-Chinese Cultural Program 2017 by the Ministry of Culture of China to celebrate the 45th anniversary of China-Germany diplomatic relations. In 2018, the orchestra traveled to France to attend Les Flaneries Musicales de Reims and visited Paris and Marseille. In July 2019, the orchestra traveled to Beijing and Portugal to attend 11th Festival ao Largo, 11th Festival das Artes and 6th Festival Internacional de Música de Marvão
